Learning from others who have had problems here, I decided to take a different approach on the hinge blocks.

This is NOT how Vans has you proceed here.

I drilled the hole for the hinge pin in the specified location.

Then drilled the 1/4" hole in the hinge arm in the top central location.  Reason for this is other builders followed

Vans instructions and sometimes drilled this hole only to find out it was close to the edge and then unable

to install the brass bushing!

I double-sided taped the assembly together.

Then I made a 1/4" pin the exact width of the block assembly.  OMG!  I am using a Carbon Fiber pin here!

(temporarily)   ;o)

Notice it's flush with the block and on both sides.

I slid the assembly down between the ribs.

Clamped it gently in the general location.

Fitted both top skins and then rolled the fuselage upside down (gotta love this fuselage stand!)  and pushed

the assembly forward to close the gap between the skins and then positioned them flush with one another and

then clamped the frame here.

and here....

Notice the clearance under the hinge arm and the center section of the sub-panel.

Remember I clamped the hinge block gently.  This allowed movement of the frame fore and aft to get the right

spacing and surface alignment of the skins on top.  I'll drill the 2 bolt holes through the block when I'm satisfied

with the alignment of everything.

I noticed slight interference here between the frame and the instrument panel.

This is what I hope to maintain when complete.
